Summary:Hamilton's letter to her mother was written shortly after her marriage to Charles Hamilton of Hamwood House, Co. Meath. She refers to her impressions of her new home, compares it to her old home of Rossana, and describes the domestic arrangements in Hamwood, particularly in relation to the household servants.


Hamilton's letter concludes with a faircopy untitled poem concerning her thoughts on married life, dated 20 June 1801.

Notes:Sarah Tighe (1743-1820) was the only child and heiress of Sir William Fownes and Lady Elizabeth Fownes (née Ponsonby) of Woodstock, Co. Kilkenny. In 1765 she married William Tighe (1738-1882) of Rossana, Co. Wicklow, with whom she had five children. She was an early supporter of the Methodist movement in Ireland and the cleric John Wesley was a visitor to her home.
