Order dated 25th February 1918 declaring that on and after the 26 February 1918 the area of County Clare will become a Special Military Area which was due to what was seen as agrarian disorder. In the spring of 1918, men with their horses and ploughs tilled the land on the estate of Crowe, the landlord at Ballymongaun, Kilnamona, asserting the right as they saw it, of the Irish people to own their land. Next morning four men from the parish were arrested - Mick Brody and Pat Keane refused to recognise the court and were sentenced to three months in Mountjoy Jail while Mick Guerin and Tom O'Brien were released on their promise of good behaviour.
