Notes: | Shemus was a pseudonym used by Ernest Forbes. Date appears in pencil on reverse. Caption reads: First Citizen: I wonder what features they refer to?" Second Citizen: "It must be some of that fellow Shemus's portraits of Hamar. Still I wouldn't call his very regular." Unpublished caption is handwritten above image and reads: 1st Citizen: "Do you remember what this refers to? 2nd Citizen: "I think it was a "Shemus" portrait of Hamar".
