Notes: | 'One of the most dramatic scenes in the Reichstag was during the discussion of Germany's offer of peace terms when Herr Matthias Erzberger leader of the Centre or Catholic Party in discussing the entente note raised the question of Germany's interest in the independence of Ireland..."We demand the freedom of this truest and purest of the small nations, and it is our duty to see to it that she is restored to the council of nations. The German sword must do it, if the conscience of the enemy, admitting the right of it, does not do it." The whole chamber applaused the speech, particularly the last lines'. At foot of page: 'A Dhia saor Éire!'. Physical description: 1 sheet ([2 p.]) ; 21 x 13 cm. more |
