This work was to have been published by S. Leacroft, London, in 1775. "[Percy] procured designs for an engraved title-page and for a frontispiece, as well as smaller illustrations; and he saw most of the text in proof. Why the book was not completed we can only surmise." cf. p. [v]-vi.

With tp., etc., of the original edition which was never completed, nor published. Tp. reads 'Ancient songs ... By the editor of the Hermit of Warkworth. London, Pr. for S. Leacroft at the Globe, Charing Cross, 1775.' Also frontisp., engr. tp., 'Three drawings for woodcuts by Henry Swinburne,' and 'Rejected designs in copperplate for the frontispiece and title-page.'.
