| Notes: | William Redmond was the brother of John Redmond who was imprisoned for three months in Kilmainham Gaol with Charles Stewart Parnell, William O'Brien and others in February 1882 under the Irish Coercion Act having been found in possession of "seditious literature". He went to America with Michael Davitt in June 1882 to fundraise for the Land League, then he and his brother John travelled to Australia in February 1883 to raise funds where they collected £15,000 sterling for the nationalist cause. In his absence he was elected an M.P. in 1883 for Wexford Borough. In the World War One he fought with the British Army in France and was killed there. He was the author of "Trench Pictures from France" published after his death by Andrew Melrose Ltd., London in 1917. Physical description: 1 item. more |
