Summary:Possible reference to one of two Maces which were stolen as part of the Irish Crown Jewels from Dublin Castle in July 1907. Letter states: "Dear H, Called here as I learned that the Mace [this word underlined] was reclining under [a] bed in top front tenement room at Arran Quay. Have told Mr. McGann and he has become active. Spoke to Cope today and he is to speak to you and Mr Collins. I have not been speaking to you about it before. Anything re. Parliament? Yours, G.H.". There were rumours in 1927 that they were then being offered for sale and W. T. Cosgrave was eager to recover them for the Irish state.
