Summary:Headed "Government Bulletin" and dated Dublin, 20 May 1798, giving an account of the capture of Lord Edward FitzGerald. On 9 May a reward of £1,000 was offered by Dublin Castle for his apprehension; Francis Higgins informed Dublin Castle of his whereabouts in a house on Thomas St., and on 18 May Major Henry Sirr led a military party to the house where after a stuggle [and the stabbing by FitzGerald of the arresting officers Captain William Bellingham Swan and Captain Daniel Frederick Ryan (who died as a result of his wounds), FitzGerald was captured after being shot by Sirr. In New Prison he was denied medical treatment; subsequently taken to the Castle then to Newgate Prison, the inflammation of his shot-wound was such that he died on 4 June, 1798.
