"The trial of Sir Jasper: a temperance tale, in verse" by Samuel Carter Hall was published in London in 1872 by Virtue, Spalding and Daldy with illustrations by Sir John Tenniel.
Accompanied by a manuscript note in red ink in the hand of Edward J. Collings referring to the fact that this manuscript poem was given to him by Mr. Samuel Carter and is incomplete. Edward J. Collings was born in Bristol in the late 1840's and at the time of his correspondence with Mr. & Mrs. Hall resided in Bolton.
