| Summary: | Belloc responds to requests from Waldron to give a lecture or lectures in Dublin. The letters are concerned with the arrangements for these visits, and the topics of the lectures. He suggests discussing 'the universal anti-Catholic falsehood of the historian [sic] of the last two generations, and the way in which we ought to tackle history nowadays.' Suggested titles include 'The Catholic Church and Property' and 'The Conspiracy against Christendom'. He mentions some friends in Dublin that he would like to see while he is there if it fits in with the arrangements Mr. Waldron has made. On 14th April 1928 he writes acknowledging receipt of a postal order for his latest book 'Many Cities'. |

| Notes: | The letters span the period 20th January 1927 to 5th November 1930; they are written mainly on the headed paper of the 'Reform Club' of which Belloc was a member; two are written on his own black-bordered headed paper from 'Kingsland, Shipley, Horsham'. There are also two letters from a friend of Belloc's, named Cecil Nolan Ferrall [?}, who writes to Waldron at Belloc's suggestion, to see at what times it would be possible to meet up with Belloc on his Dublin trip. The collection consists of 19 letters, all but 2 of them written by Belloc. Many of the letters have their accompanying envelopes, and two of them include synopses of the talks Belloc intends to give. Hilaire Belloc was a writer, and frequently gave lectures on Catholic topics. P. Waldron, who invited Belloc to Dublin on behalf of a Society or Association which is not named, lived at 34 Belmont Avenue, Donnybrook, Dublin. Physical description: 35 items. more |
