Following the 1916 Rising, many of those who were arrested were transported to and held in Dartmoor Prison. This letter refers to several prisoners such as "Clancy the Clare lad" who had a narrow shave from erysipelas [an acute streptococcus bacterial infection generally caused by vitamin deficiency]; a prisoner called "John O'Sullivan" who "suffered from constitutional swelling on his neck due to impoverished blood" and on the sheet that appears to be of toilet tissue there are references to "the Camden St. artists Corrigan and Crofts" who were both, along with a "Peter Doyle", "in fine form". There are also references to executions in the prison in the letter.
