Joseph D'Arcy Sirr was a native of Dublin, and was ordained in 1819. He was a rector at Sutton, Winchester, then of Kilcoleman, Galway and later of Claremorris, Mayo. He was the first honorary secretary of the Society for Promoting Scriptural Education in the Irish Language.
