Letter : from James Joyce, Paris 7 to Mr Monro,

1936 April 28.
Bibliographic Details
Main Creator: Joyce, James, 1882-1941.
Contributors: Monro, F.R.D'O.
Summary:Dear Mr Monro, I am interfering directly and exceptionally in the correspondence relative to the English publication of Ulysses to ask you on receipt of the present letter to communicate directly with Messrs. Allen (or whatever the publishers name is) and ask them to let you have by Saturday morning next the contract drawn up in accordance with the conditions in M. Léon's last letter. If this contract is sent to you it can be forwarded here for my signature and subsequently returned to my Agent. If, however, the contract is not delivered to you I shall be obliged if you will determine my contract with this publisher and also with my agent. Furthermore, in case this contract is signed (after a three years' exchange of inconclusive letters) I suggest that the commission on the English edition be shared between my Agent and M. Léon, the latter with your legal aid, having done all the work. All the work in connection with the American edition was also done by M. Léon together with my son here and his brother-in-law in New York. This edition has already brought in a large sum and will probably sell for the quarter of a century. I think that my agent's commission on that edition should satisfy him. In any case I should prefer to have the whole matter ended one way or the other. Either they mean Yes or they mean No. Let them try to make up their collusive minds before Saturday. Sincerely yours, James Joyce.
