| Summary: | Dear Mr Miles, Messrs. Cape had an opportunity of publishing such a book as you allude to some years ago when they were offered Stuart Gilbert's Ulysses (a commentary with extracts). They refused it stating that the subject had no interest for the British public. The book was at once accepted by Messrs Faber & Faber who are bringing out a cheaper edition this year, I am told. It has since been published in America and Germany and a French edition will also be arranged. My agent in London, Mr Ralph Pinker is at present negotiating for an American edition of Ulysses and possibly also an English one. I have given him my instructions. My text is to be published as I wrote it, unabridged and unaltered. I do not discuss this matter with publishers. Sincerely yours, |
