Summary:In engravings of Athlone dating from the early 19th century the building which forms the focal poing for this scene, at the junction of Dublingate Street and the Bawn can be seen as a single storey thached premises. In later engravings it is shown as a two storey building and here it is seen with three storeys. The Royal Hoey Hotel on the right of the picture is the successor of the Sun Inn which can be seen in the earliest engravings.
