Summary:There are few records of travellers' encampments in the area , but they were recorded as camping at Ballyogan Road as long ago as the 1930s , as recorded in the Schools Folklore Project. The first serious attempt to provide housing for travellers in the area accurred in 1968 (see Evening Press 21/11/68, when the former Blackrock College Farmhouse was turned into a camping site. There was very great opposition to the proposal. However the first chalets were proceeded-with and were occupied pre-1974.
