| Summary: | This photograph shows Mr.Kieran Kilmartin setting eel nets north of the weir wall in Athlone. These eels nets are evidence of Athlone's oldest recorded commercial activity. The Clunial monks had fishing rights at least from 1216. To-day the fisheries are the property of the Electricty Supply Board |
