Summary: | The busy,ideally situated port of Wicklow has developed over the centuries and the accompanying photograph shows a cargo of coal being unloaded for Wicklow Corn Company from the Brigitta Brake.Other imports through the port are timber,processed timber,paper and lead , while among the exports are stone chippings and wood pulp for processing in Scandanavia.In the foreground is a capstan - a device for hauling sailing ships into port.The capstan was manufactured by Tyrrells ( shipbuilders)Arklow and erected at the quayside at a total cost of 6 pounds 10 shillings over a hundred years ago. |
