Summary: | Mitzen's first secondary school, Schull Community College, was opened in 1983 by the Minister for Education, Ms. Gemma Hussey. There are 318 pupils and 22 teachers in this very successful co-educational school. The Planetarium, the only one in the Republic, is part of the school complex and a valuable educational facility for school and community. Josef Menke, a regular visitor to Schull, donated a Zeiss Planetarium Projector; the building was funded by Schull Development Association and the VEC. It was opened in March 1989 by President Hillery. Architects of both school and planetarium were Green, McCarthy, Stansfeld of Cork. |
