Summary: | In 1978 it was found that the old parish church of Kilmoe was originally much older as evidenced by its Hiberno-Romanesque style east window. The Mizen Archaeological & Historical Society requested it be preserved and the east gable restored before it collapsed, The architectural evidence date it to 11- 12 century and it was later discovered mentioned in the Decretal Letter of Pope Innocent 111 dated 1199 as "Cellmua". The Co. Council provided funds and a beautiful restoration was made. Work continues to stabilize the South Wall. |
