Bridge at Toormore

| Summary: | On the road from Schull to Crookhaven, at a place called Toormore, there is a bridge spanning a creek, the sea being on the West side. The bridge was built in 1823, with money allocated from the Board of Works. The sum of £1406, to cover the cost of all bridges between Crookhaven and Skibbereen. The Toormore bridge stands as the mason left it with one arch, a span of 12 feet, and rising 4 feet above ground level. This particular area was fairly well populated in the Earl Bronze Age, and there is much evidence of relics from this age showing trade between the peninsula of West Cork and Europe. |
