On August 24th the day the photograph was taken Dermot Sheane was baling the straw in round bales 5 ft in diameter and 4 ft wide at the cost of £1.50 per bale. The field yielded 64 round bales in total. The crop of oats was intended for use as horse feed while the straw would be used as bedding for cattle.
