Summary:This valley is the gateway not only to Wicklow's highest mountain, Lugnaquilla , but also to a feast of other peaks, plateaux and ridges.Walkers conregate here to plan their route for the day.Evidence of Ireland's Ice Age is prominent in this glacial valley, in particular the tributaries of the Avonbeg river which form hanging valleys and whose streams plunge into Glenmalure as waterfalls.The remote hostel at the top of the valley attracts lovers of the simple life, being without electricity or indoor plumbing. Th eriver provides clean , fresh water for cooking and washing and brown trout for dinner.
