Summary:Forestry is an integral part of the rural fabric around Rathdangan. With 11,000 acres of forestry, many families earn their wages from working with trees, planting, thinning, conserving and felling. The Saw Mills then take over, with the advent of Woodfab Ltd. in 1974 , new methods of harvesting developed such as the Skyline Machine , as seen in this photo. Many regret the passing of the old methods of working.Machines have replaced men and animals but it's inevitable due to modern technology. The climate is very suitable for the growth of evergreens here and this is particularly obvious with the increase in the Christmas tree industry. The Long term nature of forestry requires vision and inspiration to appreciate the prosperity being laid for the future.
