Summary: | A 16th century house of the Burkes close to the northern end of Lough Conn. Col.Thomas Burke fought on the side of King James in the Williamite wars and when William won, Deel Castle was forfeited and given to Sir Arthur Gore, later Lord Arran. The tower had a large wing with a rusticated doorway added on in the 18th century. The date 1771 is cut in a scratch coat of plaster. A wall and a low office range was also added which probably included the old lawn. |
