Summary: | The countryside is losing much of its biological diversity. Elm trees have succumbed to Dutch Elm disease. Many more fine trees have been lost through storm damage or to the chainsaw. In the past 15 years this area has lost skylark, heron, kingfisher, seedwarbler, moorhen, snipe, red squirrel. Frogs have become scarce as have cornflowers. The cuckoo is seldom heard. This photographer heard one here 4 years ago. Silent Spring is just around the corner. |
