Collection: Our Own Place Photographic Project >> 'The Maltings' [graphic]
|Main Creator:||Rooney, John, photographer|
Since early Norman times, when Walter De Ridelsford built his castle on the rocky ground near the river, there has been a Corn Mill on this site. During the last 200 years there was also a brewery there, but it closed down in this century. However, the buildings remained derelict until the 1990s when an imaginative building scheme was designed by Lark Developments' Architects, McCrossan & O'Rourke, Portobello Harbour, Dublin. Our picture shows the first small maisonette to be built on the site. All the houses and the apartments in the old mill buildings were bought within the first two weeks of openig.
