Summary: | The Ulster Flying Club was originally founded in 1928. At that time the club had no airfield, although meetings were held the club disbanded for a while but was refounded in the early 30's. In 1961 the Ulster Flying Club (1961)Ltd., was formed and received generous support from Shorts. Having struggled through some lean years it now thrives having a large membership who fly a wide variety of aircraft. Ards Airport, the flying clubs home, was opened in 1934. It was first used as a commercial airport and served as a military airfield during the Second World War. |
