Summary: | Built originally as the Market House and Courthouse in 1803 by Nicholas Price, it is now used as an Orange Hall.The open arcaded ground floor sheltered the market, while the court room was on the upper floor. The iron gates were hung in 1828. The clock on the central pediment was made by William Spratt. Ardmillan. A cupola tops the hipped roof. The first court leet was held in 1804, with John McBurney as the Seneschal. The inscription on the inset stone panel reads: 'In usum hujus oppidi vicinuqu: hoc/ forum venale sumptu suo aedificavit / armiger Nicholaus Price curante / senescalle Joanne McBirnie / AD 1803'. |
