Summary: | The first Primary Integrated School in Portadown opened in September 1990 with 22 pupils and 20 nursery pupils. It now has 112 pupils and 22 in the nursery. The concept of 'education for all in Ireland without interference with the religion of any' was successfully put into practice in 1811 by the Kildare Place Society, Dublin, but by 1829 quarrels on religious grounds surfaced and long before this school opened primary and secondary school children were divided by their religion. The 'Troubles' have led the parents of these children to make a courageous attempt to unite the community. |
