Summary:The eight tales are listed on an unpaginated contents page at the back of the volume and at least five of these were transcribed, sometimes with light editing from British periodicals of the early 1820's suggesting a probable date for the compilation of this anthology of c. 1824. The first and fourth essay had appeared in Blackwood's Magazine; the second by Leigh Hunt in "The Indicator" c. 1820; the fifth in the "New Monthly Magazine" in 1822 and the eight in "The London Magazine" in 1823.

Ellen Bridget O'Connell was the eldest daughter of Daniel O'Connell who married Christopher FitzSimon in 1825. She had her poetry published in 1863 "Darrynane and Other Poems" and her "Narrative of a residence in France" of 1822-23. An unpublished memoir of her father is held in the National Library of Ireland's collection.
