Insertion: typewritten letter from Howard Fast, New York, to Sean O'Casey, dated 13 April 1950, where Mr Fast asks O'Casey if he could write an open letter to President Harry Truman concerning the Supreme Court commitment to jail of Dalton Trumbo and John Howard Lawson, accused of being communists. Manuscript inscription at bottom written by Sean O'Casey reads: 'Refused because I felt such a letter to Head of Foreign State would be impudent and presumptuous.'

Insertion: 2-page typewritten uncorrected proof titled 'O'Casey's Codex' written by O'Casey and dated Devon, 1952. The text was written for the New York Herald Tribune and was published with the title 'Sean O'Casey, formerly of Dublin' on 12 October 1952. (see 'The letters of Sean O'Casey.
