| Summary: | Letter written in two parts. First part of letter from Richard Lovell Edgeworth saying that since he has 'had the courage to cross the channel between Calais and Dover, you will repent hereafter if you do not cross the little arm of the sea that separates Ireland from England - you would be rewarded for your exertion by seeing a new people - Different from the Scotch & more different from the England - and you would see some friends who have never forgotten you; you would also see the interior of a gentleman's country-home & family - a species of existence totally different from a London residence and London modes of life...', praising the society in Dublin. Under his subscription is a note from Maria Edgeworth stating that 'Miss Edgeworth begs to offer her thanks ... for the great trouble you have taken in bringing over for her a packet & bag from Madame de Pastores ... It will be a great pleasure to Miss E ... She was very glad to hear also through you of our kind friend Degerando...'. |
