Notes:Robert Ball, (180257), naturalist, was born in 1802 at Cobh, Co. Cork. Ball was primarily a zoologist. As honorary secretary (183757) of the recently founded Royal Zoological Society of Ireland, he contributed significantly to the development and popularity of the zoological gardens. He was the father of Sir Robert Stawell Ball.
