The Boston Numismatic Society was founded in 1860. The Royal Historical and Archaeological Association of Ireland was founded in Kilkenny in 1849 with the name Kilkenny Archaeological Society: it was not until 1870 that its name was changed to the Royal Historical and Archaeological Association of Ireland. The Dublin Society was founded in 1713 with the aim to improve the poor economic condition of the country by promoting agriculture, arts, industry and science in Ireland. By Royal charter in 1820 it became the Royal Dublin Society (RDS).
