Notes: | William Archer (1827/3097) was an Irish naturalist and librarian. He achieved fame as a naturalist, founding with others, in 1849, the Dublin Microscopical Club, of which he was the secretary. In 1877 he became librarian of the RDS. The bulk of the society's library was being taken over by the state to form the National Library of Ireland and Archer became the chief librarian of the new institution and had the task of overseeing the changes. His decision to adopt the Dewey system of classification and a dictionary catalogue were novel for the day but proved to be of lasting value. George Charles Wallich (1815-1899) was a British medical doctor and marine biologist. He was the son of the Danish naturalist Nathaniel Wallich. He won the Linnean Medal.
