Helen Allingham [née Paterson], was an English watercolour painter. She was the first woman to be granted full membership of the Royal Society of Painters in Water Colours in 1890, where she exhibited annually from 1875 until 1925. Some of her work includes illustrating children's magazines, such as Once a Week and Little Folks, and Thomas Hardy's novel Far from the Madding Crowd. She was also for a time an illustrator on the new weekly periodical, The Graphic. She is best known for her painting of cottage scenes. She was married to the Irish poet William Allingham.
