Summary:Features photographs of Western travellers and local people in north Africa. Included are photographs of Westerners visiting coffee shops and taking a boat trip along the Nile, local people in markets and at work, a horse race, Egyptian antiquities and a statue of Ibrahim Pascha in Cairo. Also included are captioned photographs of Westerners in Atbarah and Gebeit, Sudan, dated 1929 and holiday photographs taken in St. Mark's Square, Venice.

Engineer, economist and astronomer, Edgeworth (1880-1972) was born in Daramona House, Street, Co. Westmeath. He served in the Royal Engineers and Royal Signals, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1926, after which he worked for the British Department of Posts and Telegraphs in Sudan. During his later years, spent in Cherbury, Booterstown, Co. Dublin, he published work on astronomy and economics.
