Explains that he has already returned the letters to Robinson and, worrying that they have been lost, continues: "I submitted the letters ot Miss [W]eaver who at first wished all mention of herself to be cancelled", but who has with Joyce's encouragement agreed that her name should instead be replaced by her initials. With a postscript noting a footnote demanded by Sylvia Beach to the sentence in which one of her editions is mentioned. |

Lennox Robinson (1886-1958) was an Irish playwright and theatre director who wrote 22 plays for the Abbey Theatre, where he was also manager and producer-director. He also edited a number of works. Joyce had returned the letters referred to in this item to the Abbey Theatre before 22 October (see Letters of James Joyce, III, page 205), and they seem to show that Robinson was planning to publish a work that was to include letters by Joyce and his circle. No record of any such publication edited by Robinson has been found; perhaps Joyce's concern that the letters had been lost was justified. (-dealer's catalogue).
