Mac Diarmada, one of the 1916 Rising leaders and signatories to the Proclamation of the Irish Republic, was sentenced to four months imprisonment with hard labour on 10 June 1915 for subversive activities, namely an Anti-Recruitment speech he made in Tuam on 16 May 1915.
