Summary:Cotton, Stapleton, first Viscount Combermere (1773-1865), army officer, born 14 November 1773, second son and fifth child of Sir Robert Salusbury Cotton, fifth baronet of Combermere Abbey, Whitechurch, Shropshire, and his wife, Frances (d. 1825), daughter and co-heir of Colonel James Russell Stapleton of Bodrhyddan, Denbighshire. Three quarter length, standing, looking to right, wears uniform with epaulettes and cloak draped over right shoulder, military medals and stars pinned to left breast, holds plummed hat in left hand and sword in right hand, rectangle image. With facsimile of his autograph underneath image ''Combermere''. Accompanied by cutting of the coat of arms of the Marquis of Conyngham.
