Nearly whole-length, directed slightly to left, seated, looking more towards front, in wig and gown, right elbow leaning on a table to left, inkstand and papers reading, "pinxt. 1769 [1760]" and "e and opinions of Tristam Shand" on table, supports face with right hand, forefinger on temple, left hand on hip, wearing large cloak.
