Note: All but No. 4 (mrs. white's nothing) of these pieces are to be found in 'lachrimae', or 'seven tears', figured in seven passionate pavans with divers other pavans, galiards and almands, set forth for the lute, viols or violons, in five parts,' the original edition of which was printed in london in 1605. Mrs. White's Nothing comes from one of the manuscript lute books in the university library at cambridge, by permission. Dynamics have been added by dr. reginald jacques.

Inserted into score are two additional items: a single sheet catalogue of music for string orchestra and a compliment slip that reads: 'sent with our compliments at the request of alan frank - O.U.P.
