Summary: | Dáil Éireann Proclamation, 24 July 1920, black type on white paper; at bottom of broadside: "Dia Leis An Saorstat". Decree issued by Dáil Éireann to halt emigration from Ireland. It states that after July 24th 1920 "...no citizen of the Irish Republic shall be permitted to leave Ireland for the purpose of settling abroad unless with the written sanction of the Government of the Republic. Applications for Permits must be made to the Secretary of State for Home Affairs". It states that applications "...by soldiers of the IRA should set out particulars of their companies, battalions and brigades, and should be authenticated and recommended by the Brigade Commandant in each case". |
