Papers relating to the clandestine distribution and sale of Irish Sweepstake tickets in America in the 1930s.
|Main Creator:||McGrath, Joseph, 1887-1966|
Typescript documents indicating how the distribution of tickets was arranged and the codes used in communications. Joe McGrath used an extensive network of former IRA and IRB contacts to carry out the sale of tickets which was illegal under American Law. An article published in Magill (April 2006), which used these documents as sources and explains the system, is also contained with this collection. Included as well are photocopies of cheques and receipts for the Hospital Trust and an original sweepstake ticket from 1972.
