GR 5665 originally belonged to a "Joshua Hallowell, Jun. This book bought of Thomas Branagan." It was bought from the author himself.
From the verso of the title page it is written : "Last March, a new edition of the 'Flowers of Literature,' amounting to the uncommon number of 3000 copies, was published in this city. Many typographical errors crept into that edition, and in other respects, ti was very badly executed, especially on paper, whcih was of the mixed kind. Yet notwithstanding all these palpable imperfections, there is now but 50 or 60 copies of the last edition unsold. This circumstance most assuredly is a positive proof of the popularity of the work ... The inaccuracies of the last edition shall be carefully corrected in this, which also will amount to 3000 copies." Dated : Philad. August 15, 1810.
