Notes: | Cover title. Scored for strings, 2 oboes and bassoon. The originial composer of the work is disputed. Constant Lambert writes in the the preface to the score, that the " two overtures, 'The Power of Music' and 'Pan and Syrinx', are transcribed from a manuscript. ... The manuscript, which is clearly in Boyce's handwriting, consists of 3 odes in full score. ... The volume bears the bookplate of John Stanley (1713-86), the blind organist and composer who was Boyce's great friend." The origins of the works are disputed. The work is now attributed to John Stanley (See Royal Music Assoc. Proceedings, vol. 77). NLI copy signed by Bryden Thomson on page [1]. Physical description: 1 score (8 p.) ; 31 x 24 cm. more |
