The original Finnish-language version was first performed in Helsinki in December 1980. The United Kingdom premiere (in English) was given by the Three Choirs Festival Chorus and BBC Northern Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Donald Hunt, on 27 August 1981 in Worcester Cathedral."
