| Summary: | 'Falsely true : an incident after the rising in 1803, a play in one act' was written by Johanna Redmond, daughter of John Redmond M.P. - it concerns Robert Emmett's failed 1803 Rebellion. [See Ir 82289 r 21 for the script published by Maunsel, Dublin, 1911]. The day after the event, 'The Irish Times' reported on the evening: "...One of the most interesting figures in the audience was Mr. John Redmond. His presence was, no doubt, meant as a compliment to the bénéficiaire and his work, but it was also probably due to the fact that his daughter's play, "Falsely True", was one of the principal items on the programme". On January 8 1913 in the Church of Our Lady of Victories, Kensington, Johanna Redmond married Max Green, chairman of the Irish Prisons Board and son of the late James Sullivan Green; thereafter she was known as both Mrs. Max Green [in London society] and Johanna Redmond Green. |
