Summary:Distressed scrapbook, over two thirds of which is blank. Includes clippings of verses of poems by Lord Byron, Thomas Moore and other miscellaneous verses pasted in, arranged by A.M. Gartlan, Monalty House, Carrickmacross, July 1830. Three original watercolours are present - one of fuchsia and a butterfly, one of bluebells and one featuring two gooseberries[?]; also a pencil drawing of an angel. A cropped image of Daniel O’Connell is present - for a similar complete engraving [from 1823] that is digitised online, see NLI call number PD 2120 TX (1) 5 (B). Several cuttings of caricatures, originally published by Thomas McLean, London to accompany the 1819 publication 'The adventures of Gil Blas de Santillane / translated from the French of [Alain Rene] Le Sage, by Tobias Smollett, M.D.' (all cropped within plate mark) are also pasted into the scrapbook.
